DALLAS -- Two major health systems are combining to become the largest not-for-profit health system in the state of Texas.
The completed merger between Baylor Health Care System and Scott & White Healthcare was announced Monday. The merger was first announced in December of 2012, and an agreement was signed in June of 2013.
The new Baylor Scott & White Health system will be a $8.3 billion organization with 43 hospitals, more than 6,000 physicians, 34,000 employees and more than 500 patient care sites across Texas.
“Over time, patients in the communities we serve will begin seeing the new brand Baylor Scott & White Health emerge,” said chief executive officer Joel Allison. “We are building a new national model for health care delivery engineered to meet the demands of health care reform, the changing needs of patients and payers and the extraordinary advances in clinical care.”
