ARLINGTON -- One person died in what Arlington police described as a robbery and homicide investigation at a local shopping center on Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses said they heard a number of shots near the Red Wing Shoes store in the 3100 block of South Cooper Street shortly before two o'clock.
When police arrived, they found the front door of the shoe store locked. The back door was ajar, and they found an employee estimated to be in his younger 20s dead inside.
"It's very unfortunate that sometimes that happens during a robbery," said Sgt. Jeff Houston. "We ask anyone who was in the area between noon and two who saw something suspicious to reach out to police."
Police released surveillance camera photographs of what was described as an older model Toyota Tacoma extended cab pickup truck they say may be connected to the crime.
A neighboring business owner who didn't wish to be identified said he was "shocked" after hearing the initial shots.
"I ran out front of the store. Someone had called 911, and the door was locked," he said.
Stores in the strip mall do have surveillance video cameras. Police said it was too early to know if anything noteworthy was in that footage.
