COLLEYVILLE, Texas -- An armed gunman who held a teenage girl against her will inside a Colleyville home is dead after a standoff with police and SWAT officers.

Colleyville police first received a call at 7:14 p.m. Thursday regarding a possible hostage situation involving a 49-year-old man in the 4100 block of Lexington Parkway.

Officers arrived several minutes later and spotted the suspect's vehicle. Colleyville officers contacted the man through telephone calls to the home.  They set up a perimeter around the residence and saw the man was armed with a handgun.

The North Tarrant Regional SWAT unit arrived to offer assistance at 9:23 p.m.  As they began to join the perimeter, police said the man came out of the front door of the home and pointed a handgun at the officers.

The officers then opened fire on the suspect, hitting him several times.  He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Sources told WFAA that the teenage girl who was held against her will was unharmed. Investigators are not yet revealing how or if the victim and suspect are related.

No officers were injured in the standoff.
