TOMBALL, Texas – A freak accident killed a baby and critically injured her mother in Tomball Tuesday night. A large branch fell on them outside the Lone Star Behavioral Health Clinic on Quinn Road.

Lyndi Lolmaugh and other volunteers were putting up Christmas decorations inside the clinic.

"We were at a program together and her child was running around playing and stuff. I have a weakness for little girls," Jim Eugley said.

When Lolmaugh walked outside with14-month-old Tesa Grace in her stroller, the large branch fell on them without warning.

Eugley tried to help the victims.

"I looked over and saw the carriage, the sick picture I got was the carriage was on the ground, tree limbs inside of it about 12 inches around," Eugley said. "I looked around and I felt she was in there. I lifted the limb and got it out of the way."

Police, fire and EMS crews rushed to the scene and worked to free the mother and toddler.

"There was blood around the mouth," said Troy Caraway, a friend. "It looked like it was having a hard time breathing, but she was still alive at that point."

A Life Flight helicopter rushed Tesa Grace to Memorial Hermann Hospital but she didn’t survive.

It was heartbreaking news for the people back at the clinic.

Lolmaugh was listed in critical condition at last check.

"I think the hardest thing in the world is to lose a child because it’s unnatural. We’re supposed to go before the children," Eugley said.

A fund has been set up to help with funeral and medical expenses. Click here for more information.
