TEXAS CITY, Texas -- An Amber Alert for a Texas City girl was cancelled after the 11-year-old was found safe early Monday, police said.
The Amber Alert was issued Sunday night after the girl, Alexxa Rivas, was taken by her mother earlier in the day. The mother reportedly does not have legal custody of the child.
Alexxa was found nearly 24 hours later at Fuqua and the Gulf Freeway.
There was no early word on whether or not the mom, Brittany Rivas, would be charged for taking the girl. Overnight police searched for the pair in a maroon Chrysler 200.
According to the Texas City Police Department, there were concerns about the girl’s well being because her mom was considered to be suicidal, has a history of violence and drug abuse, and was possibly carrying a gun.
The girl was returned unharmed to her grandmother Monday morning.
