SAN ANTONIO -- An El Paso woman and her brand-new baby girl are lucky to be alive. Just two days before Rachel Poole gave birth, she was stabbed in the face and stomach by a surprise attacker.
Police said 31-year-old Poole was sitting inside her northeast side home, 'Facetiming' with her deployed husband who is overseas, when a man came from behind and stabbed her. Her husband -- on the other end of the video call -- witnessed the entire ordeal.
Recognizing her assailant, Rachel Poole screamed out his name -- Corey Bernard Moss -- so her husband could hear, investigators said. The man then ran out of the house and Poole dialed police.
Poole was transported to an area hospital, where she later gave birth to a healthy daughter.
"The recovery is going pretty well. We have an amazingly strong daughter who is absolutely gorgeous," Poole said. "It means the world just being able to see her and know that, through everything, that she's doing just fine."
According to the El Paso Police Department, Moss, 19, owed Poole's husband money for vehicle repairs. Moss was arrested by police on Halloween, the El Paso Times reported.
Moss has been charged with attempted capital murder.
