SAN ANTONIO -- Two women are dead after their vehicle plunged off an I-10 overpass early Friday morning, police say.
The vehicle slammed into the concrete barrier on the I-10 access road at Wurzbach around 3:30 a.m.
San Antonio police said the driver was speeding and didn't realize she was heading for the turnaround before it was too late. The Chevy Trailblazer dropped about 25 feet and landed upside down in the eastbound lanes of the interstate below.
Officers at the scene said the passenger died on impact while the driver was rushed to the hospital, where she later died.
Their names were not immediately available but police said both women were in their early 20s.
Two lanes of I-10 and the Wurzbach exit were closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage. The roadway has since reopened.
Officers said the women were not wearing seat belts.
