CYPRESS, Texas – Two men were arrested Monday morning in connection with Saturday night's deadly mass shooting at a house party in Cypress that left two dead and 19 others injured, deputies said.
Willie Young, 21, and Randy Stewart, 18, have been taken into custody Monday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Young is charged with deadly conduct, while Stewart is charged with aggravated assault, deputies said.
Stewart told reporters one of the victims who died, 17-year-old Qu'eric Danariu Richardson, was "his brother."
"Rest in peace, Qu'eric," Stewart said he was was loaded into a patrol car.
Richardson was a junior at Morton Ranch High School, according to Katy ISD spokesman Steve Stanford.
The second victim, 16-year-old Arielle Shepherd, was a 10th-grader at Morton Ranch, Stanford said.
HCSO investigators said the shooting happened just before 11 p.m. at a birthday party in the 7300 block of Enchanted Creek Drive.
More than 100 people, mostly high school students, were at the scene when the gunfire started. Many fled the home in a panicked rush to escape. Others were injured as they pushed up against a garage door while trying to escape the home.
Sheriff Adrian Garcia said at least one of the gunshots was a celebratory one inside the house and was not directed at anyone in particular.
According to statements made Sunday by the sheriff's office, it was initially reported both victims killed in the shooting attended Cypress Springs High School.
