SAN ANTONIO -- A group of suspects posing as movers packed several families' belongings -- and then took off with the loot.

One San Antonio resident hired the "international moving company" to transport his belongings to his new home in New Mexico. He even gave them a $2,500 deposit. The "movers" told him his stuff would arrive in about a month.

He was instructed to deposit an additional $2,000 to complete the delivery process. However, his stuff never appeared.

Police say the man figured this was a "common practice." However, they say, there are warnings signs the man could have looked out for.

"When you're looking into a move like this, be very wary of just depositing money into people's accounts," says SAPD officer Michael Porter.

Police also advise getting a receipt and written documentation of the agreement, as well as researching the company with the better business bureau.

They warn consumers to be wary of this particular group, which frequently changes names, but most recently identify themselves by the title, "Moving from USA to Mexico and vice versa."
