HOUSTON -- An Amber Alert for 2-year-old Alizae Mata was cancelled late Thursday night after the girl was found alive and safe, according to Houston police.

The Amber Alert was issued just before 9 p.m. but was cancelled before midnight.

The child was last seen around10:30 a.m. on Wednesday with her uncle’s girlfriend, 22-year-old Jessenia Saldana. They were supposed to return later on in the day but never came back.

Around 11:30 p.m. Thursday, police were able to track Saldana down at an apartment complex in the 8400 block of Broadway, according to Houston police. Authorities found the girl and Saldana in the apartment complex.

Alizae was quickly reunited with her mother. Officials recommended that the mother take Alizae to a hospital to be checked out, but said she seemed unharmed.

Saldana, facing a kidnapping charge, was taken into police custody.

Earlier in the night, the family received a voicemail around 6 p.m. from a person that sounded like Saldana. The caller ID came back to Memorial Hermann hospital. Hoping they would find her there, Alizae‘s mother, Crystal Mata, and other family and friends rushed to the hospital. They were met with a crushing disappointment.

“She can do whatever the hell she wants, just bring me my baby and don’t make me go through this anymore please,” begged mother Crystal Mata outside of Memorial Hermann.

Crystal and everyone else who showed up couldn’t find any trace of the child or Saldana. The voicemail they received also mentioned something about the Houston Zoo.

When family couldn’t find Alizae at the hospital, they began running over to the nearby zoo. Once again, the child was nowhere to be found.

Police have not said who was responsible for the fake clues into the child's disappearance.
