ROCKWALL -- Police are investigating the death of a 15-year-old girl in her Lake Rockwall Estates home Tuesday night as a homicide.
Surie Baeza, a freshman at Rockwall Heath High School, was found unresponsive by her mother and appeared to have been stabbed multiple times at her home in the 100 block of Lynne Drive Tuesday.
Sgt. Jeff Welch with the Rockwall Police Department said Baeza died from "a violent altercation." However there was no sign of forced entry or robbery, and no murder weapon was recovered.
"I am shocked," said former neighbor Ivan Del Angel, who returned to his old neighborhood to leave flowers. "She was a normal kid."
The victim felt ill and didn't go to school Tuesday, her mother said she last saw Surie alive at 7:30 a.m. When her mom came to check on the victim before dinner, she found her unresponsive on the floor and called 911, according to Rockwall police. The first emergency call came in around 7:15 p.m.
Investigators spent much of Wednesday speaking to those who knew the teenager.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy and the investigation is ongoing.
