SAN ANTONIO -- Police are crediting the quick reactions of a neighbor for saving a woman from drowning at a northwest-side apartment complex.

The woman was babysitting a 6-year-old boy on Saturday afternoon at the Windridge Apartments, 2502 Babcock Road, San Antonio police said.

Witnesses told police she was in the pool and suddenly went underwater.

A neighbor, who happened to be standing at her window, saw the woman go under water and quickly ran to the pool and jumped in, police said.

Cynthia Anthony, a medical assistant, also helped pull the woman out of the pool and started giving the woman CPR.

“We kept checking her pulse," she said. "I did some more compressions. Pulse. Compression. Pulse. Nothing happened.”

After a few minutes, paramedics arrived and took over.

“I believe she still had a slight pulse when they took off with her,” Anthony said.

The woman was taken to University Hospital, where she later died.
