Honey Bee protection agency scaled Holiday Inn to save colony

AUSTIN -- At the Butler Hike and Bike Trail near Town Lake Sunday morning, off in the distance a man in a white suit could be seen scaling the side of the Holiday Inn.

That man -- who was in protective gear -- rappelled off the side of the building to get to a large bee hive all the way up on the 11th floor.

The American Honey Bee Protection Agency was in charge of taking the large colony of bees off the building in order to safely relocate them. The man on the ropes was Walter Schumacher, CEO of American Honey Bee Protection Agency.

Schumacher teaches rappelling at Camp Mabry.

The hotel had originally planned to exterminate the bees but officials decided they wanted to try to save them instead.
