HOUSTON – A standoff ended in gunfire late Saturday morning after police shot a man suspected of killing his father in his home in northeast Houston.

Officials with the Houston Police Department said that Niles Elias Thibodeaux, who was barricaded in a home in the 7400 block of Banyan Street, opened fire on them and police shot back wounding him.

The suspect, 44, was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his wounds, police said. Police found the suspect’s father, Andrew Thibodeaux, 83, inside the home, but it has not been released how he was killed.

The standoff started after a family member called police at about 5 a.m. and told them that he was being threatened with a knife by another family member, police said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they said that they heard gunshots coming from the home.

A SWAT team was called in just before 6 a.m. to assist with the situation.

HPD said they were negotiating with the barricaded suspect for most of the morning before gunshots could be heard just after 10:30 a.m.
