The first Christmas gift of the year may have been the 55-foot white fir that was delivered to Alamo Plaza Thursday morning. The tree was again hand-picked by 'Christmas tree specialist', Pat Murphy. Though Murphy reportedly has his own Christmas tree lot, he traveled to California to select the one San Antonians and tourists will flock to this season. (Bear in mind, only the top part of the tree was harvested and then transported by flatbed to the Alamo City.) This is the 28th year H-E-B has gifted a Christmas tree to the city. The next phase begins Thursday night as crews from Carl Electric will string more than 10,000 LED lights and 450 ornaments to decorate the fir. The 28th annual H-E-B Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place on Friday, November 23 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. - with the actually lighting at 6:20 p.m. Santa Claus will put in an early seasonal appearance at this free event.
