HOUSTON - Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s office announced Friday that he has officially joined Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and will serve as Texas State Chairman.
Patrick has campaigned with the Republican nominee on several occasions in the past months, and said he was honored to take an official role in Trump’s campaign.
“My primary goal is to unite our party in Texas. I want to ensure a solid Trump win and to remind Republican voters, and the new Trump voters who came out in the primary, to support the entire Republican ticket from the White House to the Court House,” Patrick said in the release.
“Lieutenant Governor Patrick is a passionate conservative who has been a good friend to our campaign. He shares my commitment to make the border secure, grow the economy, fix our schools, protect the Second Amendment and Make America Great Again,” said Trump in the release. “I am happy to have him aboard.”
Texas Lyceum released poll data on Thursday showing Trump leading Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton by seven points among likely voters in Texas. The poll data among registered voters had Trump and Clinton within the margin of error in a four-way race that included Libertarian candidate Gov. Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
