AUSTIN -- Days after Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison said she was "so pleased" to accept an endorsement of her gubernatorial campaign from former Vice President Dick Cheney, incumbent Gov. Rick Perry accepted a big endorsement as well.
The political arm of the Texas Medical Association made their endorsement at their headquarters Monday morning.
While the 156-year-old association of doctors and other medical professionals endorsed Perry for governor in 2006, they also endorsed Hutchison in her campaign to be re-elected to the U.S. Senate.
Leaders of the organization said the governor has done more over the last four years for doctors in Texas.
In accepting the endorsement, the governor took an opportunity to tweak federal proposals to revamp healthcare in America.
"The one-size fits all approach (is) just not going to work," the governor said. "It hinders our ability to apply local fixes to local problems."
While the association's endorsement of Perry may go a long way with its members, experts said endorsements have limited efficacy in a race between to candidates very well-known to the electorate.
