AUSTIN -- Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison Friday announced that she won't resign her U.S. Senate seat until important legislation is voted on in Washington, and that may not be until after the March Gubernatorial Primary.
"That has, you know, obviously presented problems in my timeline," Hutchison said. "I have had to reassess and figure out what is the most important things for me -- I am in that process right now."
The man she's trying to un-seat said he hopes she stays in Washington.
"That's her call -- there are polls that show most Texans say she should stay up there and just do her job," Gov. Rick Perry said, "I agree with most Texans."
A new Rasmussen Poll gives Gov. Perry an 11 point lead over Sen. Hutchison, but both candidates downplayed the new numbers.
"Polls will take care of themselves and we'll have an election and what's most important is that we keep this state on the track that it's on," Perry said.
"Polls go up and down but we have internal poling that is very good -- I feel very good about where we are," Hutchison said.
