More than 43,000 Texans were hoping Monday to be one of 100 people randomly selected to attend Thursday’s Obama Clinton debate on the University of Texas campus.

According to the Texas Democratic Party, 43,436 Texans registered for the drawing. The deadline was Monday at 5 p.m.

The winners will be notified Tuesday afternoon if they are one of the 100 selected.

The debate is bringing Austin the most political attention the city has seen since November 2000 when Governor Bush was racing towards the White House. At that time, the city became home to more than 1,300 media members from around the world.

So far, more than 500 media have registered for Thursday’s debate and more are expected. CNN and sponsors are transforming the inside of the Recreational Sports Center at UT.

“Meanwhile, we have a lot of work to do," said Austin Mayor Will Wynn.

The City of Austin is transforming as well. It is working on making sure the hundreds of media outlets won't have trouble getting Internet access.

Austin police are also working with Secret Service agents to coordinate the public and the candidates' safety.

"We've only had, a week," said the Mayor.

Typically sponsors of events like this have months to prepare.

The debate is also having a tremendous impact on the local hotel industry with rooms filling up fast.

The debate airs on CNN Thursday at 7 p.m.
