Attorney Harry Whittington, 78, is shown in his office in Austin, Texas, on Jan. 25, 2005. Whittington was accidentally shot by Vice President Dick Cheney during a hunting trip, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006.
Bob Woody says he knows Austin lawyer Harry Whittington, the man accidentally shot by Vice President Cheney during a quail hunt in south Texas.
Harry Whittington has some very influential friends and holds prime real estate in Austin.
Some of the real estate he owns: the Vaughn building near the corner of 9th and Brazos.
Bob Woody met KVUE News in front of Whittington's building.
Like Whittington, Woody is in the real estate business, and owns real estate on Sixth Street.
“I'm very lucky to know him as a business partner and also as a friend,” Woody said.
Woody says Whittington also helped with development around the Austin convention center.
“He has been significant in the growth of downtown with the development of some of the smaller high rises that have been here for a good while,” Woody said.
People who know Whittington know him as an avid hunter and a good story teller.
“I knew he did [hunt], that's not news to me, but it was news to me about the accident. I'm real glad he's doing okay and that will give him another story to tell,” Woody said while chuckling.
Woody said he can’t wait to see Whittington back over at the Vaughn building.
