Women's group meets to 'Take Back the Trails'

Tonight women are fighting back. They're protecting themselves on the trails after three sexual assaults on Austin running trails in just over a month.

AUSTIN,TX - There have been three sexual assaults on Austin trails in just over a month and while one arrest has been made, APD suspect at least two others could be involved.

Police and local groups aren't letting fear stop them though.

APD are continuing their Run with a Cop program Monday morning at 7 a.m. and Sunday a local group participated in the first "Take Back the Trails" run.

"When I was in college, we used to have take-back-the-night walks," Organizer Erin McGann said. "I took that idea and decided to have a take back the trail run."

McGann and a few dozen other runners met at 5:30 a.m. Sunday for a run followed by a self-defense class.

"It's my trail. It's my home," She said. "This is my community and I will always try to make my community safer."

The group has already decided to host a second trail run and self defense course on the 15th. More information can be found at their Facebook page.
