Woman attacked after intervening in parking lot dispute, police say

AUSTIN - On Nov. 16, police said a woman witnessed a man verbally abusing another customer in an HEB parking lot and tried to break up the fight. The suspect allegedly then turned on her, knocking her to the ground.

According to court documents, the suspect, later identified as Bryan K. Thomas, had been insulting another man when the victim told Thomas to leave him alone, and allegedly slapped him on the arm. Thomas then turned to the victim and punched her in the face, knocking her to the ground, police said. A witness reported that Thomas continued to punch her, and allegedly even slammed the victim's head into the concrete while straddling her.

Police believed that Thomas appeared to be intoxicated as they reported he had bloodshot eyes, a strong odor of alcohol and his balance was impaired. He was also allegedly found with 0.01 oz of Marijuana in his pocket.

Thomas was charged with assault with injury and possession of marijuana. Online records show he was booked at the Travis County Jail with a bond set at $21,000.
