Locals organize to help Hurricane Matthew victims

Hurricane relief efforts around Austin

WILLIAMSON COUNTY, TEXAS - Local groups are organizing to help those affected by Hurricane Matthew on the East Coast. And you can, too.

About 10 volunteers will be joining the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services team from Williamson County to head out to Florida Friday morning. They leave from Taylor at about 8 a.m. Four volunteers will be in tow with a mobile kitchen and a catering truck.

There's a similar local effort to help those in Haiti who were affected by the devastation of the storm. Mission of Hope Haiti has sent several staff members after 300 people there died in the storm. They pre-positioned more than 200,000 meals before the hurricane hit. The volunteers are now distributing those meals.

Back in the United States, it's anticipated that supplies, food, water and monetary donations will be needed. To donate, go here. To volunteer, go here.

Blood banks will also likely see a surge of patients with Hurricane Matthew. So if you can, donate blood.
