Hawaiian Falls opens free Friday to people with special needs

Hawaiian Falls Water Park will open exclusively for children and adults with special needs Friday.

The water park chain will host "Champions Day" at all five of its Texas locations. The champions refer to individuals with special needs and they will get in free, a spokesperson said.

Special needs individuals, along with their families and caregivers, will have exclusive access to the park from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. on June 23. And, they can stay when the park opens to season pass holders at 10 a.m.

Hawaiian Falls said it would turn down the music, add more staff and caution employees about using their whistles during "Champions Day" to be sensitive to the needs of the champions.

Companions of special needs individuals will be able to purchase reduced-price tickets for $10 each -- with a limit of four reduced-price tickets per champion.

Currently, there's no Hawaiian Falls in the Austin-metro area. Hawaiian Falls Pflugerville shut down after missing over $400,000 in loan payments to the city.

The closest Hawaiian Falls to Austin is located in Waco, Texas -- just four miles west of Interstate 35. Click here for directions. The park closes at 6 p.m.
