Two dead after vehicle fire near Riverside Drive

There were two deadly crashes in Austin today. The first happening around 2:30 p.m. in Northwest Austin.

AUSTIN - Austin-Travis County EMS said two people were pronounced dead on scene Saturday after a vehicle fire in the 6400 block Riverside Drive near Vargas Road.

Austin police said they received a call around 5:55 p.m. reporting a serious crash on Riverside westbound. APD, ATCEMS and the Austin Fire Department responded to the scene and located a four-door sedan fully engulfed in flames, with two deceased occupants inside.

Police said the cause of the crash and the victims' identities are still being investigated. The AFD also deployed its arson investigation department.

Police said roadways in the area would be shutdown for several hours, as officials are also investigating another fatal accident earlier in the day on Research Boulevard.
