AUSTIN - Austin-Travis County EMS said two people were pronounced dead at the scene Saturday after a vehicle fire in the 6400 block Riverside Drive near Vargas Road Nov. 11.
Wednesday, Nov. 29, Austin police identified the deceased as Anderson Rodriguez, 18, and Brianna Moreno, 19.
Austin police said they received a call around 5:55 p.m. reporting a serious crash on Riverside westbound.
According to the preliminary investigation, Rodriguez was racing another vehicle on East Riverside Drive at a high-speed rate. Police said at one point he lost control of the vehicle and struck a billboard post. As a result, the vehicle caught fire.
APD, ATCEMS and the Austin Fire Department responded to the scene and located the four-door sedan fully engulfed in flames.
Rodriguez and Moreno died at the scene.
Roadways in the area were shut down for several hours, as officials also investigated another fatal accident earlier in the day on Research Boulevard.
Police said the cause of the crash is still being investigated. AFD also deployed its arson investigation department.
