Two accused of driving in vehicle with child, drugs

AUSTIN - Two people have been charged with endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance after being pulled over with an 8-year-old child asleep in the backseat, police said.

Court documents state that police pulled over their vehicle on the 11000 block of U.S. Highway 290 on Monday due to a defective brake lamp. Once police approached the vehicle and made contact with the driver, Christina Renee Robinson, an officer detected an odor of marijuana emitting from the vehicle.

Both Robinson, 34, and passenger Branden Rytione Newsome, 35, were asked to exit the vehicle and detained in handcuffs, police said. Documents state that a fabric lunch bag was found near the child in the backseat, which contained a black digital scale, a clear baby bottle containing a green liquid, and a Crown Royal bag.

Police said the Crown Royal bag contained three plastic baggies, one containing 25 yellow pills later identified as Xanax, another containing marijuana, and the last containing a multitude of different pills later identified as Ecstasy.

Reports state that neither Robinson nor Newsome claimed responsibility for the drugs in the vehicle.
