'Tis the season to drive safely. Where you can expect extra police patrols

AUSTIN - Crime prevention isn't taking a break this holiday season.

Local law enforcement agencies are coming together in the holiday spirit to work together as Austin District's High Visibility Task Force.

From Nov. 21 to Nov. 24, the Travis County Sheriff's Office, Bee Cave Police Department, Lakeway Police Department and the Department of Public Safety are working together to reduce the amount of car crashes in Travis County. According to a press release, the task force will focus on "crash reduction and detection of unsafe and intoxicated persons."

The roadways that have been identified as having the highest expectation of traffic and potential for crashes are:

  • SH 71
  • RM 2244
  • Hamilton Pool Road
  • SL 360
  • RM 620
  • RM 2769

These areas will be specifically patrolled with the intention to reduce vehicle crashes, intoxicated or unsafe driving and crashes that cause damage to the highway's infrastructure. The units patrolling all intend to intensify crime prevention.
