AUSTIN - If you’ve looked on social media Friday, you may have seen the phrase “Taco Trucks on Every Corner” trending. While many in Texas may not think that’s a bad idea; it was said by Marco Gutierrez, “Latinos for Trump” founder, as a threat of what could happen without Trump’s immigration plan.
“My culture is a dominant culture, and it’s imposing and it’s causing problems,” Gutierrez told MSNBC Thursday evening. “If you don’t do something about it, you’re gonna have taco trucks (on) every corner.”
Gutierrez was commenting on the backlash that had erupted among some groups after Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump gave a speech on Wednesday night that reinforced his immigration policies including deportations and a wall with Mexico.
In the same interview, Gutierrez tried to clarify saying that the Latino culture had “a lot of good things that we’re bringing to the United States, but we also have problems.”
Political observers seized on the comments and the Internet quickly exploded with memes about Taco Trucks on every corner.
