District Attorney to seek death penalty against accused killer

The Travis County District Attorney is seeking the death penalty against Paul Devoe, a man accused of going on a killing spree this summer spanning from Central Texas to Pennsylvania.

The move by the D.A. is gaining praise from at least one friend of Devoe's alleged six victims.

Barbara Phillips, a bartender at O'Neill's in Marble Falls was there the night of August 24th, 2007 when Paul Devoe walked in with a gun looking for an ex-girlfriend.  When Michael Allred, another bartender at O'Neill's tried to step in to stop Devoe, detectives say he shot Allred killing him.

Allred actually died in the arms of his friend and colleague Barbara Phillips.  On Wednesday, Phillips told KVUE, "for whatever reason, he did it and I think he should have to pay and he should have to pay the maximum, and if it's the death penalty, then so be it."

Assistant District Attorney Gary Cobb says it is unusual to see death penalty cases in Travis County.  He went on to say that juries in Travis County aren't nearly as liberal in death penalty cases as they are reputed to be.

Devoe's trial is expected to start next summer.
