Construction equipment hits downtown Austin bridge
01:07 PM CST on Wednesday, December 19, 2007
An 18-wheeler hauling a crane clipped the 12th Street Bridge over Interstate 35 in downtown Austin Wednesday morning, causing transportation officials to shut down the roads temporarily.
It happened sometime after 9:30 a.m. Police say the flatbed 18-wheeler was headed south when the crane hit the bridge, causing a chunk of concrete to fall onto the interstate.
One woman suffered minor injuries because of flying glass. A couple of cars did appear to be damaged.
Texas Department of Transportation officials gave the okay to reopen the bridge to traffic, but they say they are evaluating it.
Crews swept the debris off the interstate and reopened the lanes.
