Store donates bikes to AISD school
10:28 AM CST on Thursday, December 13, 2007
An Austin school once nearly shut down for low test scores will receive a big donation Thursday thanks to a dramatic improvement.
Academy Sports and Outdoors chose Webb Middle School to receive 25 new bicycles and helmets.
Some of the bikes will go to departments like math, science, social studies and reading -- but some will go straight to the students.
"For example, if a student has perfect attendance, their names will go into a fishbowl of other students, and there will be a raffle for those students to win a bike," said Nancy Fitch, 6th grade counselor.
Fitch says the school will also keep some bikes as incentives to get the students to events like Thursday night's math night.
