A new toll road opens Wednesday, offering some relief for drivers in Georgetown. The new section of State Highway 130 runs from Highway 79 in Round Rock to the north end of Georgetown.

The new section of SH 130 opened Wednesday.

It's opening ahead of schedule and under budget, much like the other Central Texas turnpike projects. Officials hope it should make the morning and evening commutes for Georgetown residents a little less congested.

A ribbon cutting ceremony took place Wednesday morning to open a 14-mile section of SH 130 from Interstate 35 north of Georgetown to Highway 79 in Round Rock. It connect with a portion of the road that's already open from Highway 79 in Round Rock to Highway 290 in Austin.

The road is expected to open completely to traffic by the Wednesday afternoon commute. The section of road is opening about eight months ahead of schedule.

The Texas Department of Transportation says commuting times will be drastically reduced for residents.
