Prosecution rests case in slaying of state trooper
12:27 PM CST on Wednesday, December 12, 2007
COVINGTON, Tenn. -- The state has rested its murder case against Orlando Garcia in the fatal shooting of state trooper Calvin Jenks.
The defense began its presentation by putting Garcia on the stand late Wednesday morning.
Garcia is one of two Texas teenagers accused in the killing of Jenks, who stopped their car in January on Route 14 in Tipton County.
Jenks had stopped the teenagers' car on suspicion of speeding and authorities said he was shot twice in the head at close range as he leaned into the vehicle saying he smelled marijuana.
Alejandro Gauna, who was 17 at the time, is scheduled for trial in April.
Both defendants are from Austin.
