Austin family to get 'Extreme Makeover' of home
09:37 PM CST on Monday, December 11, 2006
An Austin family is about to get a new home, thanks to the popular TV show "Extreme Makeover Home Edition." But first the show is helping the family pay off the mortgage on their current home.
On Monday night, show host Ty Pennington held a fundraiser concert for the O'Donnell family at La Zona Rosa. Five of the six O'Donnell children have autism.
Before the makeover, the family was facing foreclosure of their home.
"We can't just build a home and have them come home and worry about their mortgage," said the show's Senior Producer, Diane Korman. "We need to do more and the community is coming together."
"Extreme Makeover" is working to make the new house not only a wonderful home, but also optimized for the special needs of the children. The construction will continue all week as friends, neighbors and classmates help out.
The house itself is being builty by Georgetown-based Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes.
