Thousands descend on Austin Convention Center for motivation seminar
11:39 AM CST on Tuesday, December 2, 2008
Thousands of people were in downtown Austin Tuesday for the Get Motivated seminar.
Organizers say it's a way to get inspired and find the secret to your success, while hearing from a dream team of successful politicians and celebrities.
The crowd welcomed one of the main speakers, Former Secretary of State General Colin Powell, with a standing ovation.
Organizers say an estimated 18,000 people poured into the Convention Center to hear from a long list of illustrious speakers like Powell, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Rick Belluzzo, president of Microsoft.
While there were shuttle buses from Highland and Barton Creek Square malls to bring attendees to the Convention Center, there were some major traffic tie-ups on Interstate 35 and streets leading into the area early Tuesday morning.
The parking garages by the Convention Center were full by 7 a.m., and some who came to get motivated ended up parking far away.
But they all say it was worth it to hear from business leaders, nationally known celebrities and world leaders.
Parts of the get motivated seminar are also taking place at the Riverbend Center off Loop 360, so expect to find more traffic in that area as well later Tuesday.
