Vandal targets Austin restaurant before grand opening
11:28 AM CST on Monday, November 26, 2007
Austin police are searching for a vandal that hit a new Central Austin restaurant just days before its grand opening.
Owner James Konstantinindas had just gotten home from El Greco restaurant on 31st and Guadalupe when his security company called to tell him that glass was broken and police were on their way to the restaurant.
Surveillance video shows the vandal smashing glass with a baseball bat.
The restaurant is supposed to open Wednesday.
"It was heartbreaking, because me, my mother and my aunt have been putting a lot of effort into opening this up this coming week," said Konstantinindas.
Konstantinindas says he's still trying to find someone to repair the windows in time for his pre-opening service.
The vandal also broke a couple of windows next door at Mangia Pizza.
