Hit & run victim remembers husband
10:19 PM CST on Monday, November 26, 2007
Gloria Rodriguez says she and her husband Antonio held hands briefly as they were driving back to Austin from San Antonio last week.
She says Antonio grabbed her hand when a Spanish love song came on the radio.
Those are the last memories Rodriguez has of her husband moments before the driver of a white SUV hit the couple from behind forcing their truck off the road and never stopped.
"He said, 'Look they're trying to make us run off of the road,' and I said, 'Well hold on,' I told him hold on, he says, 'I can't' he says, 'Look, I can't go no more,' and that's when I just heard the bump on the truck, and that was it," Rodriguez told KVUE.
Then Rodriguez's truck hit a telephone pole, killing Antonio.
Gloria Rodriguez was hospitalized with three broken ribs, a bruised lung and other injuries.
She's now out of the hospital and recuperating at her mother's home.
The couple met in Junior High school in Jourdanton, Texas outside of San Antonio and married when she was 14 and he was 15.
Antonio Rodriguez drove a truck for 23-years supporting his wife and 4-boys.
"He should know what he did, he took somebody's life, in other words he messed up a whole loving family and he should turn himself in, or her or whoever it is," says Rodriguez.
San Marcos Police say the white SUV which hit the Rodriguez's should have damage to the right front passenger's side.
