Deputies were called to the 4200 block of Hunter Road in San Marcos around 11 p.m. Wednesday.
They say they found the bodies of a husband and wife -- Charles Eckford, 56, and Susan Eckford, 53 -- in the carport.
Both had gunshot wounds, and investigators recovered a weapon at the scene.
Authorities say the bodies were discovered late Wednesday by an adult and the couple's teenage daughter when she returned home after Halloween trick-or-treating.
Hays County officials said Thursday afternoon the Travis County Medical Examiner's Autopsy preliminary report indicates the incident was a homicide-suicide because it appears Charles Eckford fired the weapon.
