A fight at a weekend Quinceanera in Pflugerville ended with a car chase
and attack with a gun, a tire iron and a handheld "Taser," Round Rock
police said.
At least six shots were fired in the Sunday morning attack at a busy
intersection near the Dell Campus in Round Rock.
There were no serious injuries.
The fight was believed to be gang-related, according to Eric Poteet, a
spokesman for the Round Rock Police Department.
According to Poteet, several teenagers were involved in a fight at a
Quinceanera in Pflugerville.
A Quinceanera is a Latino celebration of a girl's fifteenth birthday.
The celebration begins with a Mass and is followed by a large party. It
was at the party where the trouble began, Poteet said.
The group of teenagers in the fight left in a vehicle and another group
of partygoers gave chase.
The chase continued into Round Rock and the first vehicle crashed at the
intersection of Greenlawn and Louis Henna in south Round Rock around
2:30 a.m. Sunday, Poteet said.
"The wrecked car's occupants were surrounded by 10-12 other teens, who
began battering their car with rocks and a tire-iron," Poteet said.
"When the teens left their car, the other group assaulted them."
At least six shots were fired at the fleeing teens, Poteet said.
"One victim hid behind a concrete planter in the parking lot of the
nearby Wendy's restaurant," Poteet said. "He suffered minor injuries
from flying shards of concrete debris as several rounds struck the
planter."
Police found three bullet holes in the concrete planter. One bullet was
found in the Wendy's drive-through window.
Another teen told police he had been shocked by a "Taser-" type weapon,
Poteet said.
None of the teens who were assaulted were hospitalized.
Eight to 10 of the suspects have been identified and charges are likely,
Poteet said.
