The Texas Ethics Commission released the latest campaign finance reports filed by the four candidates for governor on Tuesday. They show Gov. Rick Perry way ahead of the pack in contributions and cash-on-hand.

The reports detail donors and donations from July 1 to September 28.

—- Incumbent Republican Governor Rick Perry keeps his top spot in fundraising. His campaign collected more than $3 million since July, and has about $9.2 million left to spend between now and election day.

—- Independent Carole Keeton Strayhorn raised $1.2 million since July and has $5 million in cash-on-hand.

—- Independent Kinky Friedman topped Strayhorn in fundraising during the same time period. He took in $1.6 million and reports about $830,000 on hand.

—- Democrat Chris Bell also raised more than Strayhorn in the last filing period. He took in $1.5 million, but reported just $62,000 on hand.

Bell's campaign manager, Jason Stanford was quick to point out that the numbers reported Tuesday don't reflect any dollars collected since September 28th, and Stanford said the Bell campaigns collected more than a million in the last week alone.

"We have the big money donors coming on board," said Stanford.

Trial lawyer John O'Quinn gave the campaign $1 million on Monday, and challenged his fellow trial lawyers to donate as well.

Bell, who has trailed behind Perry as much as twenty points in recent polls, said he's counting on the boost from donors to help him spread his message.

"We're in the final four weeks and you all tend to forget just how long the month of October is," said Bell.
