Expo visitors see rescued bald eagle
11:16 AM CDT on Tuesday, October 7, 2008
Visitors to this year's Texas Parks and Wildlife Expo had an unusual opportunity over the weekend.
A bald eagle was found injured, weak and unable to fly last week in East Texas. He was brought to Austin for emergency surgery, and visitors got a chance to see him up close.
Surgery was set for Monday.
"His chances are higher now, because he survived the night, has gotten antibiotics, been stabilized, no more damage by the fracture, and we've got him to the point now to where he could be a good surgical case," said John Karger, Last Chance Forever Birds.
Experts say the eagle is about 4-years-old. They aren't sure how his wing was broken.
