Monday last day to register to vote

12:36 PM CDT on Friday, October 3, 2008

Associated Press

AUSTIN -- Not a registered voter? Time is running out if you want to cast a ballot for everything from president of the United States down to the local level.

Monday is the last day for Texans to register to vote for the November 4th general election. Applications can be obtained from many post officies, libraries, county election offices and from the Texas secretary of state's VOTEXAS.org Web site.

Texas has more than 13.2 million registered voters, which is about 75 percent of the state's total voting age population. Total registration has grown by about 500,000 since the March primaries.

Secretary of State Hope Andrade is the state's chief elections officer. She encourages voters to take advantage of the October 20th-through-31st early voting period.
