Austin council approves contract with biomass plant
10:12 AM CDT on Friday, August 29, 2008
A $2.3 billion energy plan received final approval Thursday from the Austin City Council.
The energy contract is for 20 years and would pave the way for the Nacogdoches Power Company to build a biomass plant and sell renewable power to Austin Energy.
The plant would be fueled by wood waste -- something Nacogdoches says it has a lot of.
But some environmentalists aren't so sure -- they question whether enough wood waste is available for the plant.
