A fire that burned nearly 4,000 acres in Williamson County last week flared up again Sunday evening.

Fire officials say that nearly all of the land just off Highway 195 in Florence is scorched black. The ground was very dry and cracked before it was torched.

The Forest Service said it was exactly what a fire needed to spread quickly. Added on top of the ground conditions were strong winds and very low humidity.

The fire that broke out Sunday was much smaller than the fire that started on Thursday. It was more akin to about 20 acres instead of thousands.

We're told it started because of a hot spot flare up from last week’s fire.

Luckily fire crews have been on standby, and so they caught today's fire pretty quickly before it spread too far. Still, they weren't taking chances and had about 70 residents off Pecan Branch Road evacuate. Residents talked about what it was like to have to leave their home behind once again this week.

"It’s a waiting game. You wait until they come and tell you that you can go home again, and you hope it's pretty quick. It's scary; it's very scary. You always see it happen to other people, but you don't know their feelings until then, and wonder are you going to get to go home to your property or go home to nothing," said Linda Knight, who had to evacuate.

Knight was able to go back home Sunday night. Firefighters were able to keep the fire from getting too close to the homes. You actually can't even see any charred ground around the homes. However, beyond the immediate area the ground turns back to ash.

Tonight fire fighters will stay out here and probably throughout the next few days as well, because as long as the weather stays this way, the forest service says it's likely there will be more flare-ups.
