Homeowners fed up with sporadic water

Hundreds of homeowners in Travis and Hays counties are fuming over an ongoing water crisis.

The drought has been drying up a community well in the Deer Creek subdivision off Hamilton Pool Road for the past couple of weeks.

"We came out here to the faucet, and the dogs were thirsty. So I took their jug and came back when it was full and it was brown... Yucky rusty brown," said Mary McRoberts, Deer Creek Ranch homeowner. "We'd have water for a day, and then not for a day."

Justin Crawford shares McRoberts pain and now has to rely on his own relatives just for the basics.

"It's ridiculous you buy almost a $200,000 home, and there's no water," said Crawford. "My mom lives down the road and we go down there and shower."

With their patience just about dried up, Deer Creek homeowners say it's taken too long for the Deer Creek Water Company, a privately-owned well, to address the problem.

"You would think a utility would be a little more responsible for its consumers," McRoberts said.

Water company owner, Sam Hammett, told KVUE News by phone he is working on answers.

"In the hot season, our water table is not looking good," Hammett said.

Hammett blames the lack of rain and area development for just overburdening the system. But trucks, some which arrived Thursday, are continuing to bring in water to fill the system.

"We're back up on water and we're going to hope we can our tank full by tomorrow," he said.

The water company says that homeowners should have full water service sometime Friday and trucks will continue to deliver water to make sure homeowners have water.
