Todd McDowell

Todd McDowell was accused of touching one of his students more than 10 years ago. The incident involved a 13-year-old girl at Zavala Elementary School in 1996.

Attorney Joe Turner told KVUE News that McDowell formally entered a plea agreement in court Friday. The judge sentenced him to 100 days in jail with 10 years deferred adjudication. He must also have treatment and counseling.

McDowell taught at Zavala for 16 years before going to Galindo Elementary in South Austin where he taught for two years. The victim told police he molested her on two separate occasions on school grounds.

McDowell was originally charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first degree felony, but the charge was dropped.

Indecency with a child is a second degree felony that carries a jail term of up to 20 years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.
