Texas First Lady Anita Perry and members of former Texas first families held a joint news conference Thursday to drum up support for the restoration of the Texas Governor's Mansion.

Ex-Gov. Dolph Briscoe has donated $100,000 to help repair his fire-gutted former residence.

Briscoe, who was governor in the 1970s, made the presentation Thursday in Austin as part of the private effort to rebuild the devastated Governor's Mansion.

“Although it is a tragedy that has brought us together, the images of the significant damage borne by this Texas treasure is a powerful call to action,” Perry said. “Today’s gathering of first families is a shining example of how restoring our historic Governor’s Mansion reaches beyond politics and partisanship, and into the shared sentiment of all Texans that we must rebuild this monument.”

The 152-year-old mansion was severely damaged last month after an arsonist set fire to the building. So far there have been no arrests.

The mansion was unoccupied and being renovated at the time of the early-morning blaze.

The mansion was being renovated at the time of the blaze. It's still not known the exact dollar figure needed to fully repair the mansion.

A new fund was been set up earlier this week to collect money to rebuild the pre-civil war home.

Earlier this week, Perry kicked off the fundraising effort by accepting a $10,000 check from the Austin Heritage Society.
