Police investigate homicide in Southeast Austin
08:10 AM CDT on Thursday, July 10, 2008
A homicide in Southeast Austin creates public scenes of raw emotion.
Police say it was a rare situation where family members of the victim find the man wanted for questioning and bring him back to the scene of the crime.
Just after 6 p.m., police responded to a stabbing at the Fairway Village Apartments, 6118 Fairway Street, near Montopolis and East Riverside Drive. A 48-year-old Hispanic woman died at the scene.
Police quickly started looking for her boyfriend, 32-year-old Enrique Ramirez. A few minutes later, family members of the victim brought Ramirez back to the crime scene after finding him at a nearby gas station. By then, a crowd had gathered and emotions took over.
Police quickly worked to put Ramirez in a patrol car and brought him in for questioning.
This is Austin's 13th homicide of the year.
