A man believed to have robbed at least 14 banks along Interstate 35 since 2004 is suspected of holding up a San Marcos bank Monday morning.

San Marcos police released this image of the suspected robber from video surveillance inside the bank.

Police say the man, wearing a thick gray beard, denim and a tan straw hat, walked into the American National Bank on Hunter Road and pulled out a gun.

Bank employees were forced into a restroom before the robber took the money and ran.

"We're working on surveillance video right now -- right now, we don't have much as far as a vehicle," said Commander Terry Nichols, San Marcos police. Investigators hoped to release video and photos of the suspect and his vehicle.

No one was hurt.

San Marcos police say the robber may be the same man who held up a Wells Fargo bank in Marquez, Texas on May 14. A $20,000 reward was offered in that investigation.

San Marcos police are working with the FBI to identify the robber. FBI agents say the beard is real and hope someone can recognize him.

“We consider him one of the most dangerous bank robbers out there,” said FBI Special Agent Eric Vasys. “When he takes control of a bank and he's issuing his commands, they're very forceful and he's terrorizing the employees, and we're afraid should an employee not comply quick enough there might be violence.”

The bandit usually rents cars for his getaway and seems to favor Chevy Impalas. Agents hope to find him before he strikes again. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 512-353-TIPS (8477) or FBI headquarters at (210) 225-6741.
