DA's office: No criminal case against City of Austin official
07:45 PM CDT on Thursday, July 3, 2008
A City of Austin official will not be prosecuted after he was accused of using city resources for his own personal gain.
Pete Collins has been the city's chief information officer since 2004. He was under investigation by the Austin Police Department after a colleague made the allegations.
According to city officials, the Travis County District Attorney's Office decided not to pursue a criminal case against Collins.
"We reviewed the allegations and investigation conducted by the Austin Police Department and concluded that this matter would be better handled as an administrative personnel matter," Assistant District Attorney Patty Robertson said in a release.
Collins has been on administrative leave with pay since the allegations surfaced.
"We certainly take these matters very seriously and want them reviewed fully and impartially," City Manager Marc Ott said in the release. "With the District Attorney Office's decision not to prosecute, the City now will perform a full administrative review and treat this as a personnel issue."
There was no word on how long it would take to complete the review.
